Frequently Asked Questions
What file types can be loaded into PerfPRO Analyzer and PerfPRO Studio? There are several types of both performance and course files that can be loaded into PerfPRO. Refer to the File Compatibility page for more information.
OK, so PerfPRO Studio can handle as many trainers as your system can handle. What does that really mean?If you have an older Windows XP desktop or laptop with a single CPU then you can handle an 8-16 trainer setup without a lot of issues. It would be advised to have at least 1-GIG of memory installed if you plan to connect that many trainers. If you plan to use the Video Workout option then have a good video card installed as well. If your desktop is newer with at least a dual core processor and running Windows 7 then any realistic number of trainers can be connected. The only lag time with 25 trainers connected is it takes a little extra time to initialize all of the COM ports on your system. The initial countdown before a workout begins should be increased to handle this initialization period.
What is your suggestion when it comes to having many trainers, say 30, hooked up? How can I get the screen space for a lot of trainers? The most feasible method is to have really good video card that can support two monitors (two connectors) and have two projectors connected. And don't mess around with Windows XP, commit to Windows 7 with a powerful desktop. One of your projectors is then dedicated to the main timer and any video/music. The other projector is dedicated to all the rider displays. Rider displays can be individually moved around so you may find that some rider displays can be on projector 1 and the rest on #2. For a typical setup with 8-16 trainers you can get by with only one projector.
Is the Studio portion a free upgrade for existing registered PerPRO Analyzer users? No, the additional application requires a new license. This is far more than an upgrade to the Analyzer piece.
Where do I install PerfPRO Studio if I am already using PerfPRO Analyzer?Install it in the exact same location you installed PerfPRO [Analyzer]. This will allow you to share the data you've already established.
What if I don't want to purchase Studio and the trial expires yet I'm a registered PerfPRO Analyzer user, how do I get my old registration back?Go to the Downloads page and download the latest version of PerfPRO Analyzer (not Studio) and install it in the same location Studio is installed. This will remove the studio portion and return you to your previous registration. If you run into any problems please email me and we'll get things reset.
How many machines can I install PerfPRO Studio and/or PerfPRO Analyzer on?Two (2). Both machines must be connected to the internet when you do your registration (doesn't have to be at the same time). If you are registered on two machines and one of them crashes you may not be able to re-register the reloaded machine right. Our system will most likely think you're attempting to register on a 3rd machine. If that happens just send an email and we'll get you reset so you can move forward.
Is PerfPRO Mac and/or Linux compatible? No.
I can't seem to get my Sufferfest videos or other .MP4 video files to play on my Windows XP or Vista box. Any suggestions.Microsoft Windows Media Player must be installed on your machine (and usually already is) to do video workouts within PerfPRO Studio. If your operating system is Windows XP or Vista and you plan to run .MP4 files then you probably need to download the K-Lite Codec Pack to accomplish this. Windows 7 users should not have any problems.
Can PerfPRO Analyzer load up CDF files created by RacerMate's Coaching and MultiRider 2009 Software? No. CDF and MDF file types can't be read since they are encrypted. Both the Coaching Software and MultiRider have an auto-export feature that will convert the CDF file to a text file. This file can then be read into PerfPRO Analyzer and Studio. Be sure to set the "Toss" value within the export options to a value range of 15 to 20. This will decrease the size of the file and speed up the loading process with no loss in accuracy.
Can PerfPRO Analyzer export any of my performances to other file types?Yes. PerfPRO Analyzer can export to the PowerTap (.csv) and Peaksware Export (.pwx) file types as well as its own version of a CSV file. Do this by opening the performance then pressing the Reports pull-down button.
How can I email graphs and report information to my coach, fellow athletes, and Mom for her refrigerator? There are functions for both the graphs and reports to copy all the information to your clipboard. You can then paste into your email software if it excepts the HTML format. You can also use the "Post to Web" function to upload the report to the PerfPRO website as well as TrainingPeaks.com. A link is then provided that you can email to friends. Lastly, there is "Post to Web and Email" option. By setting up the template email within options you can then post a report to the web then get prompted to send an email to the associated rider.
Is it possible to manually enter data into PerfPRO?Yes. Use the "New Workout" button from the Race Log or press Control-M.
Can I edit data from any performance file to make any necessary adjustments in case my device failed me for whatever reason?Yes. Starting with version 5.30 you can edit performance data from any workout in your race log.
How can I use my Garmin FIT/CRS/TCX course files with PerfPRO?Garmin history and course files can be used to extract the elevation/heading data to create a CompuTrainer 3D course file (.3dc). This information can be pulled directly from your Garmin device.
Can my Garmin FIT/TCX History file be used with PerfPRO?Yes. Garmin history file(s) can be loaded like any other performance file. Checkout the File Compatibility page for more information.
I want to import a GPX file to create a 3DC CompuTrainer course, but the file is missing elevation information.Because the GPX file contains Longitude/Latitude data, PerfPRO can determine what the elevation is for each point and set an elevation. PerfPRO pulls SRMT elevation data from the USGS website to make this happen. It determines what data files from the USGS website are needed, downloads them, then matches the lon/lat data from your GPX file with the USGS data and gives you your profile.
I experiment with other training tools and notice sometimes the amount of elevation climbed/descended isn't the same from application to application. Why?Most of these tools, including PerfPRO attempt to smooth out the elevation/gradient spikes throughout the course. Each tool applies their own formula for smoothing these spikes out so there will be differences. Until a standardized method of calculating this formula is accepted you will see differences.
